The most important thing for any miles chaser is to be familiar with the type of credit card that you will use because that is still the fastest way to earn miles. This involves knowing the right credit card to use in a particular situation, understanding the expiry of your points, knowing when the best time is to make your transfers to take advantage of redemption opportunities and more.
The cheat code is:
1. Earning the most miles you can by intelligent use of the right credit card in the right situation
“For example, if I’m buying flight tickets on Singapore Airlines or Scoot, or spending via Pelago and Kris+, I will use my KrisFlyer UOB credit card for an uncapped earn rate of SGD 3 miles per dollar spent.”
2. Taking advantage of different sign-up bonuses and promotions
3. Redeeming your miles on the best possible redemption option so that you get the most bang for your buck
1. Always looks out for double or triple stacking opportunities
“For example, if you’re pumping petrol, you can earn miles from your credit card spending, from Kris+ spend as well as from Esso Smiles.”
2. Always look out for opportunities to redeem miles for less (eg: monthly KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes)
3. Always look out for unique opportunities to redeem miles (eg: KrisFlyer Experiences)
“One of my favourite memories was redeeming miles for the F1 Singapore Airlines Sky Suite experience.”
Just slightly under 2 dozen. However, the beauty of the miles game is that you don’t need that many. Most people can optimise their expenditure with just 3 or 4. Always looks out for 4 miles per SGD 1 earn rate opportunities which is usually the best earn rate in Singapore right now.
