If you’ve been to Japan, chances are, you’ve been to the main island of Honshu, but if you’re looking to switch things up a little, visit the island of Kyushu. More specifically, plan to spend time in Fukuoka. Here, you can look forward to both the old and new – think ancient Buddhist temples as well as modern shopping malls. If you’re a big fan of flowers, or the colour purple, aim to visit between late April to early May, and make a trip to Kawachi Wisteria Garden, where you’ll find over 20 kinds of wisterias. The biggest highlight of the visit will definitely be the flower tunnels. When they’re fully covered with the blooms, they’re a sight to behold, and will form a memory that you’ll remember for the rest of your life!
Checked Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City off your list already? Another Vietnamese city to visit is Da Nang, which is well known for its pristine beaches, gorgeous bays, as well as the famous Marble Mountains. The latter are karst formations with pagodas at their peaks, but apart from that, they also house a whole network of caves, tunnels, and towers. If you’re looking to escape the city, make a trip to Ba Na Hills, which is a huge resort complete with a theme park, manicured gardens, and an extremely Instagrammable bridge – picture two, gigantic hands holding up a shimmering golden bridge. Visit at dawn and you’ll surely be mesmerised by this scene.
Plan a visit to one of the most picturesque cities in the African continent: Cape Town. If you’ve always thought that this is a destination for those who are looking to go on a safari trip and stay at a game reserve, think again. The capital of South Africa has much more to offer – long, scenic drives along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, delectable local delights like bobotie, braai, as well as gatsby, and more. Whatever it is, plan to spend a day at Table Mountain National Park for its multitude of trails. Hike up the spectacular Lion’s Head Mountain for views of Table Bay, or hike up one of the many other trails to view Lion’s Head Mountain from afar. Either way, you’re guaranteed breathtaking scenes.
Chaotic streets, cave temples, outdoor bazaars, and film central: these are no doubt some of the terms that best describe Mumbai. This city, which was formerly called Bombay, lies on India’s west coast, and is the largest city in the nation. There are numerous things to see and do here – you could spend an evening at Marine Drive, and watch the sun set over the Arabian Sea. Or indulge in one of the many delicacies that the city is best known for – butter chicken, fish curry, and kebabs. If there’s one thing that you shouldn’t miss, it’s a visit to the iconic Gateway of India stone arch that sits by the Mumbai Harbour waterfront. This 20th century monument is easily one of the most stunning pieces of architecture in this city!
Looking for a laidback city to visit down under? Choose Adelaide if you’d like to visit markets and museums, or restaurant and bar hop. Wine lovers will also love this city as it sits at the foot of not one, but three wine regions, so visiting wineries for days on end is a possibility here. If you’d prefer to be out in nature and have young ones with you, make a trip Mount Barker for a relatively short and easy hike. Summiting this takes an hour or so, and you’ll be treated to panoramas of the surrounding areas, including Mount Lofty, as well as Bremer Valley, when you arrive at the top. Don’t forget to bring some food and drinks with you, and have a leisurely picnic at one of the tables along the trail!
